Big Kids Group: On Hold for Now

Dear 6^th graders, 1/21/12

After much consideration and discussion, the staff and I have decided that we are going to put the Big Kids’ Group on hold for a while. There are a number of reasons for this change and I apologize to anyone who is unhappy with the decision.

I have noticed that some of you, in combination with the fifth graders, have enjoyed having a space and time separate from the younger students. There is a possibility that, during the regular program hours, I would be able to occasionally offer this option.

Please feel free to discuss this plan, or others, with me. I am always interested in suggestions for improving the program for all students.

FYI: Once a week, our 6th graders will be having a special time set aside just for them during the After School program. The schedule will rotate so that each of them will be able to participate.

2011 A.B.C. WALK – A BIG SUCCESS!!

The students (and some staff) at the Pelham After School Program did a lot of walking this month – all to benefit Amherst’s A Better Chance House. About 70 students logged 532 miles (equal to 2,660 laps around the playground) and received pledges of $530.

Congratulations to our top walker, Ahanu Youngblood. Ahanu has been the highest walker for 3 years and this year he went 29.4 miles which surpassed last year’s personal best of 25 miles.

Our goal was $500, which we made – but last year we reached $600 with some last minute pledges. Anyone who has pledged should pay Lennie either in cash or with a check made out to the “ABC House”. ANY ONE WHO STILL WISHES TO CONTRIBUTE IS ENCOURAGED TO DO SO. Thanks to all our supporters! Lennie Ware
